The “Education on Saving Lives” Training Program for Teachers from Impoverished Rural Areas
In the rural areas of China, the number of “left-behind children” is rising. This is caused by more and more people moving to the cities for labor. These children are left without parents or school to care for them, let alone to educate and protect them. They have no idea about the value of life and how to protect themselves. It is obvious that this new vulnerable group needs urgent help from all layers of the society, and especially teachers can play an important role.
However, the teachers in poor areas show a lack of professional skills in mental health. LKKHPG addressed this problem by holding the “Education on Saving Lives” training session in 2010 in Chengdu, Sichuan. 30 teachers from 3 primary schools were invited to take the program that focused on “creating a psychological safety net”. The training combined ethic and practical education to show the teachers how they can help children realize the value of life and how to live it safely. With a better view on themselves and the society, the children will grow up safely and will be able to develop a strong and capable character.
In 2011, LKKHPG expanded the scope of the event by holding another training session at the headquarters of Infinitus (China) Company Ltd., with theme of “Education on Saving Lives – A Warm Home for Your Heart”. This was attended by over 50 teachers from 5 different schools, and has improved the psychological education skills of even more teachers from impoverished areas. During the training, the company also donated many books to the teachers as part of the project.
